Driver CPCs - Driver Essentials
Have you planned for the requirement for LGV drivers to have 7 hours formal training annually? This is to meet the EU training Directive called the Driver CPC which became law in September 2009. The Law requires a total of 35 hours of approved training to be undertaken every 5 year period for commercial drivers of 3.5 tonnes vehicles and over.
Were you aware it applies to all Class C and C+ E licence holders including C1?
Valley Training has designed a one day course that will cover the first year's requirement, is approved by the DSA training body (JAUPT) and covers the areas that all drivers need to be aware of in their day-to-day jobs. Whilst the course covers areas that drivers should already have knowledge in, it is designed to bring knowledge up-to-date and standardise the workforce.
The 7 hour course covers:
- EU and domestic driver hours regulations
- Working Time Directive
- Road transport regulations
- Correct operation of tachograph equipment and knowledge of related regulations
- Requirements of driver daily walk-round checks
The training is delivered via lesson plans, discussions, question and answer sessions and DVD. Drivers are not usually used to class room situations and, as the Driver CPC is not test based, we aim to keep the course interactive and interesting so that the employer and driver can both benefit greatly from this training.
