Introduction to Road Transport Services

Valley Transport Solutions (VTS), incorporating Dales Transport Services (Dales), Interboat and Valley Solutions, is the freight division of Cherwell Valley Silos Limited.

VTS's road haulage operations cover the industrial and agricultural sectors, with curtain sided vehicles, bulk tippers, flat beds, fridges, box vehicles and specialist long-wheelbase equipment for a variety of uses, including boat and crane transportation. The division employs approximately 65 staff including drivers, mechanics and administrative staff and is engaged in both contract hire and spot work. The total fleet numbers in excess of 50 prime movers and approximately 110 trailers.

Over 80% of VTS’s work is contractually-based for industrial customers. Products transported include automotive products, corrugated packaging, industrial lifting gear, fresh and frozen food, boats, cranes and various consumer products.

The bulk tipping fleet specialises in grain movement, animal feed ingredients, aggregates and construction materials and landscaping supplies.

VTS runs a mixed manufacturer fleet of prime movers, including Volvo, Scania and Daf. Equipment is maintained by a modern, commercial workshop at the Cherwell Valley Silos site at Kings Sutton. The Dales maintenance garage not only ensures continuous and reliable operation of the Dales fleet, but also provides external service support on a contract basis. As in the rest of the company the garage is run under ISO9001:2000 constraints.

Specialised in-house software allows detailed planning of all loads and controls all front-end and ‘back-office’ functions. Rapid and efficient POD turnaround and invoicing is part and parcel of the VTS admin function.

VTS has a products division, Dale Products, which sells landscaping material, such as mushroom compost, bark, topsoil, peat, sand and organically enriched loams.
